Welcome to beautiful Key Largo! Key Largo is the first of the beautiful Florida Keys and is self-proclaimed the Dive Capital of the World. Home to beautiful artificial reefs, boasting with marine life and a plethora of water activities. There are many things to do in Key Largo, although rest and relaxation are top of mind for a lot of visitors. Keep reading below for a list of the Top 10 Things To Do In Key Largo.

1. Relax on the beautiful beaches around Key Largo


Most of the beaches in Key Largo are hidden behind hotels, resorts, and condos, but some are fully accessible to visitors. Here is a list of the Top 5 best beaches in Key Largo:

  1. Far Beach - great spot to snorkel, explore reefs and marine life

  2. Cannon Beach - another great spot for snorkeling and exploring the reef

  3. Hammock Beach - behind Baker's Cay Resort, tree covered, quiet, and peaceful, although not much shore line

  4. Coconut Beach - behind Baker's Cay Resort, beach lounge chairs, beautiful water, tons of water sport activities, beach bar, and restaurant on the beach

  5. Harry Harris Beach - $10 entry fee into Harry Harris State Park, small swimming area but beautiful and quiet. There is also a boat ramp, kids playground, and picnic areas.


 

2. Snorkel, Kayak, Paddleboard, Jet Ski and more!


In Key Largo there are an abundant amount of water sports and activities to do. Most resorts and hotels offer access to these activities, as well as options to rent snorkel gear. Paddleboards, snorkel gear and rafts are usually free if you are a guest at the resort, so definitely take advantage of that!



 

3. Visit John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park


John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park was developed in 1963, as the United States' first park under the sea. The park is 25 mile long and 3 miles wide. You can do snorkeling or scuba tours, glass bottom boats excursions, swimming, picnicking, and more!


 

4. Feed the Tarpon at Robbie's in Islamorada


Islamorada is just a 30 minute drive south from Key Largo. Robbie's is an awesome stop for food, fishing gear, and FEEDING TARPON! This is such a cool experience and a must-do while in Key Largo. Cost is only $2.25 per person and a bucket of fish is $4.00. Get that adrenaline rushing as you see a tarpon heading straight for your fish! You may even see a few jump out of the water to snag a tasty treat. Great for families too!


 

5. Go on a Fishing Excursion


You can find any kind of fishing in Key Largo. Deep sea fishing and fly fishing are very popular in this area of the keys. My husband went fly fishing for tarpon and said it was an exhilarating experience! Find excursions on trip advisor or Viator - there are an abundant of Captain's and companies that offer fishing trips as either half day or full day.


 

6. Swim with Dolphins


Dolphins Plus Bayside offers the chance to have a dolphin encounter. There are a few different options, depending on your level of comfort. You can swim with dolphins, paint with them (crazy right?), feed them, and go behind the scenes with the dolphin trainers. Photographers will be there to capture the amazing moments and you have the option to purchase them after.


 

7. Ride Bikes Down Overseas Highway


A lot of resorts and hotels offers bikes for free to guests. If you are not staying a one of these, there are plenty of inexpensive bike rental locations along overseas highway. I love biking when on vacation because it gives you the opportunity to aimlessly stroll down side roads and explore areas that you wouldn't otherwise with a car. Bike to a breakfast shop or stroll along the road and stop by hidden beaches!


 


8. Visit Everglades National Park


The Everglade's is the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States. Everglades National Park protects an unparalleled landscape that provides important habitat for numerous rare and endangered species like the manatee, American crocodile, and the elusive Florida panther. With 1.5 million acres of wetland, the Everglades is an amazing destination to stop at on your way to/from Key Largo. Explore parts of the park and spot beautiful wildlife from a safe distance. This is a great spot for families as well!


 


9. Be a Foodie for the Day!


Key Largo is a huge foodie area, with a ton of fresh, locally caught seafood and a variety of cuisines. Cruise around town and check out these Top 10 Best Eats In Key Largo. Two of my personal favorites are Tacos Jalisco (featured in this pic) and Mrs. Mac's Kitchen. Tacos Jalisco is a food truck with the best authentic tacos for super cheap! Mrs. Mac's Kitchen in a long time staple in Key Largo and makes THE BEST Key Lime Pie!


 

10. Grab a Beer at Florida Keys Brewing Company - Islamorada


Just a short 30 minute drive south from Key Largo, Florida Keys Brewing company offers a variety of locally brewed beers. Their tasting room is open every day from 11am-10pm (11pm on Fri/Sat) and their beers are super refreshing in the hot Florida sun. They have a large Beer Garden where you can relax and sip on a cold one. Additionally, the vibe is super chill and the merchandise is awesome!


 

This list of the Top 10 Things to do in Key Largo is truly must-do and must-see when you are visiting the beautiful Florida Keys. Key Largo is the easiest key to access if you are flying in from out of town or driving from another area of Florida. I hope this list helps you find a few things you might have missed!
